Unlike most competitors who sell technical grade, Essential Depot's lye is Food Grade (lower in impurities) and proudly made in the U.S.A. This lye is FOOD GRADE, USP, non-GMO, does not contribute to BSE, and has not been animal tested since 1990. It is Kosher, as the chlorine and equipment used in its manufacture do not come into contact with any animal products or byproducts, nor does it contain chemical additives that are organic in nature. The lye is also Halal acceptable, as it does not contain alcohol, natural L-cysteine extracted from hair or feathers, animal fats and/or extracts, blood, or meat byproducts.
SDS and/or COA are available upon request. All products are shipped in easy-to-store and easy-to-use resealable containers. Each container is BPA Free HDPE with a resealable child resistant cap. This shipment is classified as ORM-D CONSUMER COMMODITY.

This product is designated by the FDA as a food additive Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) when used in accordance with good manufacturing practices. It is cleared for reaction with fatty triglycerides and their fatty acid, alcohol, or dimer derivatives to form soaps. Sodium hydroxide has various applications, including in soap and detergent, food and dairy processing, metal cleaning, textile treatment, general and industrial cleaning, biodiesel and bioethanol production, chemical production, and petroleum exploration.
Essential Depot's sodium hydroxide has properties such as a boiling point of 2534°F (1390°C), a melting point (crystallization begins) of 590-608°F (310-320°C), a specific gravity of 2.13, and a pH at 20°C that is strongly basic. It is highly soluble in water, with a solution rate twice as fast as flake, and has a refractive index of 1.3576. The particles are spherical and evenly sized, with very low friability and very low dust.
